Chapter 335 Sorry to Bother
Stellan closed her eyes and kissed Alaric. Even though she stayed by his side every day, she felt an
overwhelming joy as if they were reunited after a long separation. Alaric, still weak, let her kiss him for a long
tbefore she finally let go.
Stellan asked, "Why did you take those strong painkillers? Do you know that taking too many in your condition
could be fatal?"
Alaric smiled faintly and said, "Knowing you were in danger, | couldn't think rationally. Now both of us are fine.
Isn't this a happy ending?"
This outcwas indeed fortunate.
"Alright, you just woke up. Don't talk too much." Stellan lay in Alaric's arms. "I'll stay here with you."
Alaric raised his hand to hold Stellan close and then closed his eyes. He needed more rest, and having Stellan in
his arms made him feel much more at ease.
They held each other tightly for a while until Mia knocked on the door from outside. "Mr. Knight, Stellan, there's
an officer named Neil Jackson here to see you about the case." Alaric had just woken up, and Neil was already
here. What timing.
"The police?" Alaric was surprised to hear that the police had cto them, not knowing what had happened.
"Yes, the officer in charge of the kidnapping case." As soon as Stellan finished speaking, Neil appeared at the
bedroom door with a man in his forties, dressed in a suit.
Neil couldn't help but feel like he was intruding, showing up just as Alaric had regained consciousness.
Fearing that Alaric and Stellan might refuse to see him, Neil followed Mia up to the room. When he saw them

"Mr. Knight, Mrs. Knight, my apologies for the interruption," Neil said politely. "I went by your office and was told
that Mrs. Knight was at hcaring for Mr. Knight. So, | cover. Congratulations, Mr. Knight, on finally waking
up." Alaric was still a bit disoriented.
"Alaric, this is Officer Neil, the one handling this case. He's been in touch withabout sdetails," Stellan
quickly introduced.
Alaric thought, 'Handling the case?
'I've been unconscious for nearly a month. It was a clear-cut kidnapping case, so why is he still here after such a
long time?"
"I'm sorry, Officer Neil. Alaric just woke up today, and he's quite weak," Stellan said, trying to deflect.
"I understand. We'll just ask a few questions and won't keep you long," Neil said, turning directly to Alaric. "Mr.
Knight, what can you tell us about Todd's death?"
"Todd's dead?" Alaric's eyes widened in shock.
Neil exchanged a glance with the middle-aged man he had brought along.
"Officer Neil, as | mentioned earlier, Alaric has just regained consciousness and barely has the strength to speak.
I haven't even had a chance to discuss the case with him yet," Stellan explained, her voice firm. She could tell
that Neil was a diligent officer, committed to uncovering the truth, so she decided to be straightforward.
"Alaric was a soldier before. He was severely injured and fell into a coma for three years. Even though he woke
up, he still suffers from serious complications, with each episode being quite severe. The night Alaric rescued me
from Todd, he collapsed before we could get to the car and has been unconscious since. He really didn't know
about Todd's death. | swear on my family's lives that Todd was still alive when we left, and there was no fire. This
is my final statement on the matter. Officer Neil, | understand you're doing your job, but I've cooperated fully and
said everything | can. The rest is up to you and your team. Alaric needs peace to recover, and | really hope you
won't disturb us further." Stellan had been very clear, leaving Neil little room to continue questioning.
"Alright then, we won't keep you any longer," Neil said, giving Alaric a polite nod. "Mr. Knight, take care of
yourself."
With that, Neil and his colleague left the room. Outside, Neil turned to the middle-aged man accompanying him a
seasoned expert in micro-expressions who had been closely observing Alaric and Stellan.
"Alaric's in a frail state. In such conditions, it's hard to lie. It's safe to say he only just learned about Todd's death.
As for Stellan, she didn't show any signs of deception either."
"So, it seems they're not lying," the expert agreed.
"Pretty much, but my observations can't serve as direct evidence."
"That leaves only Ambrose. | checked the nearby surveillance, and he hadn't left his house since returning. He
only went out after the fire at the cabin.
However, the footage only shows a figure from behind, so we can't be sure it's Ambrose. If it's not him, and he's
orchestrated everything, then Ambrose is incredibly meticulous in his planning."
"If it was really him who orchestrated everything, gathering evidence now, after all these days, is going to be
nearly impossible," the expert said.
Neil remained silent. He knew full well that, given the telapsed and the lack of evidence, gathering anything
substantial would indeed be difficult.
After Neil and his colleague left, Alaric was left with a look of confusion.
"Todd's dead?"
Follow on Novᴇl-Onlinᴇ.cᴏmStellan had hoped to ease Alaric into the news slowly, but Neil's visit had ctoo quickly. She had no choice
but to fill him in on everything she had learned from the police while he was unconscious.
"Someone deliberately set a fire to destroy evidence?" Alaric's mind raced. "It must be Ambrose. He planned this
all along-first, he kidnapped you, handed you over to Todd, then sentthe address anonymously, hoping I'd
rescue you and end up clashing with Todd, leaving him to profit from our downfall."
"You said someone sent you the address anonymously?" Stellan asked urgently. "What about the message?"
"It was erased after being read," Alaric replied. "Even if the message still existed, it wouldn't help much. With
Todd dead, Ambrose could easily pin everything on him."
Alaric spilled out a flood of information before breaking into a coughing fit. Stellan immediately started patting
his back to help him.
"Alaric, you're still recovering. Don't overexert yourself," Stellan said gently, helping him settle back down. "Just
focus on getting better. The police are involved now; let them handle the investigation. You don't need to worry
about it." Alaric nodded, understanding the necessity of resting. He knew that stressing himself further would
only make things worse and only his family would bear the burden of his worries.
